Chapter 5
Jewelry Stories:
This is the area I was hired for. I do make more than a normal sales associate. I show people jewelry in the showcases. I put in personal orders like class rings, family jewelry and nameplates. I install bands and batteries in watches, but only the brands we carry since the company does not want us touching other brand watches because of liability issues especially if we have no way of replacing it. I'm also expected to know all the watches by heart because we carry them. Then, some customers get really smart with me, and ask me how I know we donât carry it as if I have not been working at Kyleâs for five years.
Kyle really fucked up this time. He changed the policy yet again. Instead of saying we can only work on watches we carry, now it's we can work on non-Kyle watches only if we confirm with the customer that Kyle's is not responsible for paying for it. To make them aware of it. Guess what happened? An ugly old woman came up to me, and it wasn't one we carried. So I told her I could not do it due to liability issues. She looked at me like I was crazy, and said someone else did it for her a few weeks ago. It's one we don't carry, and I didn't want to do it. Then, she repeated she did it for me last time in such a snotty way. So to shut her up since she doesn't care if something happened to it I do it anyway, and resist the urge to strangle her. The whole time she thanked me and made it seem like I was doing her a favor. Then, she had the nerve to comment about how young I looked and I wanted her to go away before I strangled her since she practically forced me to work on her watch. Another dipshit had the balls to ask me if I knew how to do my job, and then didnât want me to work on it since she didn't know things can happenâ¦Really? I was arguing with a dipshit who wanted me to work on her watch that some watches are complicated, and it's not as simple as putting a battery in. If you fuckers think it's so easy then do my job for me, and if you don't want to then shut the fuck up.
One idiot got mad that it wasn't second nature to know all the watches just because we didn't carry the one he wanted. Thanks, sir. I love getting blamed for not memorizing everything.
I also take links out only if they have pins. I was never taught how to do stretch watch bands, but we have a co worker that knows. I also do returns for jewelry at the register. Honestly, I have grown to hate the jewelry counter at times since people can suck. Customers can be incredibly rude to a sales associate, and I just wish they would be nicer.
